After recording a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) below five per cent on Friday, the city witnessed a rise on Sunday with the TPR hitting 6.13 per cent. It also saw a rise in cases and reported 1,431 fresh infections and 49 Covid-19 related deaths over the past 24 hours. For the first time since the second wave hit the state, on May 20 the TPR had gone below 5 per cent and on May 21 it was 4.28 per cent.
On May 18, the city for the first time in the second wave, had registered daily new Covid-19 cases below 1,000. However it saw a significant rise in cases and fatalities later in the week. The city had reported the highest number of cases (11,163) on April 4 and then it started to decline. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5. It fell below 6 per cent on Saturday. On May 5 the TPR was 10.96 per cent. Last week, the TPR went below 7 per cent.
The doubling rate continues to significantly improve and is now 331 days. Of the 49 deaths in Mumbai, 25 patients had comorbidities, 27 deaths were of patients above 60 years of age and 17 deaths were of those in the 40-60 years group. The city's recovery rate has been improving and was 93 per cent on Sunday. A total of 1,470 people were discharged after full recovery.

Maharashtra saw a marginal dip in new cases on Sunday and a significant drop in Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state government's report, 26,672 new cases and 594 deaths were reported. The state's case fatality rate is now 1.59 per cent. A total of 29,177 people were discharged after full recovery on Sunday. Currently, the state has 3.48 lakh active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a marginal dip in new cases and fatalities. The region saw 3,678 fresh infections on Sunday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Vasai-Virar saw 270 cases and Raigad 628. Palghar reported 243 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili reported 209 on Sunday and Thane reported 192 new cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 38 deaths, out of which Mira-Bhayandar reported 14 deaths, Palghar nine, Vasai-Virar two, Navi Mumbai five and Kalyan-Dombivili one.
