COVID-19: Mumbai’s test positivity rate drops to single digit

Along with the TPR, doubling rate of COVID-19 infections also improves; Maharashtra sees marginal decline in daily cases at 62,919

April ended on a positive note for Mumbai as the Coronavirus test positivity rate (TPR) dropped to a single digit - from 20.85 per cent on April 1 to 9.01 per cent on Friday. Also, the daily cases dropped below 4,000 and the doubling rate of infections improved significantly to 87 days, according to the BMC.

According to the data released by the BMC on Friday, the city confirmed 3,925 more cases of novel Coronavirus. However, there was a marginal rise in daily casualties which reached 89, including 56 men and 33 women.

Of the 89 deceased COVID-19 patients, 42 had comorbidities, three were below the age of 40 years, 32 were aged between 40 and 60, and 54 were senior citizens.

Meanwhile, a total of 6,380 patients in the city recovered and were discharged on Friday. The number of active cases in the city stood at 61,433, and the recovery rate remained stable at 88 per cent.

Daily cases have been declining in Mumbai, which reported the highest number of COVID-19 infections at 11,163 on April 4.

The state's data on Friday showed that the daily cases declined marginally but the fatalities increased. Maharashtra recorded 828 COVID-19 deaths, taking the total toll to 68,813. The case fatality rate is at 1.5 per cent.

A total of 62,919 new infections were confirmed across the state. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also reported a slight drop after confirming 11,140 cases, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Thane recorded 1,353 cases, Navi Mumbai 524 and Kalyan-Dombivli 846.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 58 deaths, out of which seven were reported in Thane, six in Raigad, 12 in Panvel. A total of 69,710 patients were discharged across Maharashtra, and the number of active cases as on Friday is around 6.6 lakh.
