Mumbai has been seeing a steady rise in new Covid-19 cases after Monday, when its daily tally dropped below 300 for the first time during the second wave. On Wednesday, 404 more people in the city were confirmed to be Covid-19-positive, according to the BMC's data. The number of fresh fatalities also rose, but remained below 10.

Of the six casualties confirmed on Wednesday, five patients had comorbidities and six were senior citizens. The TPR increased slightly to 1.24 per cent from 1.22 per cent on Tuesday.

The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, and 382 people were discharged. The doubling rate improved and was at 1,383 days. Both the daily cases and fatalities in the state rose, at 6,857 and 286, respectively. The case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent and 6,105 people went back home after full recovery. Currently, the state has 82,545 active cases.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), too, cases increased after dipping below 1,000 on Monday. The MMR, including Mumbai, reported 1,168 new cases. Thane saw 74 and Raigad 273. Panvel reported 61 new cases, Navi Mumbai 72 and Vasai-Virar 60.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, saw 106 fatalities, with Vasai-Virar reporting the highest toll at 56. Raigad reported 32 deaths, Kalyan-Dombivli eight, and Navi Mumbai and Panvel two each.

No vaccination on Friday?

The city has vaccines only for one day and if the fresh stock doesn't arrive by Thursday evening, public vaccination centres could remain shut once again. However, the BMC is still hopeful.

It informed that for the convenience of citizens "the time of all government and municipal vaccination centres has been fixed from 9 am to 5 pm (except on Sundays/and days when there is no stock)." Of course, the timing will be relative to the stock availability," it said, adding that any changes will be updated via its social media platforms.

Meanwhile, even as the government grapples with limited stock, the number of private vaccination centres has increased.
