Mumbai recorded a significant drop in daily Covid-19 fatalities, taking it to a single digit once again, on Monday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's latest data, the city registered a total of 478 new cases and nine deaths. Maharashtra also reported a drop in fresh infections and casualties.
Of the nine deceased Covid-19 patients, seven had comorbidities, five were senior citizens and three were in the 40-59 years age group. The city had reported Covid-19 casualties in single digits last on June 8 and July 7.
The test positivity rate (TPR), which had reduced to 1.36 per cent - lowest in the second wave of Covid-19 - on July 10, has been rising again. On Monday, it rose to 1.71 per cent. It was 1.6 per cent on Sunday.
The doubling rate of Coronavirus infection, however, continued to improve and was recorded at 926 days.

The recovery rate in the city has remained constant, at 96 per cent; and 701 more people recovered and went home on Monday.

The number of newly confirmed deaths in Maharashtra also fell significantly to 53 on Monday from 156 the day before. The number of recovered patients was almost double of that of the new infections. State health department confirmed 7,603 additional cases, and 15,277 people were discharged.
The fatality rate remained constant at 2.04 per cent in the state, which currently has about 1.08 lakh active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also witnessed a marginal drop in daily tally with 1,374 confirmed infections, including the ones reported in Mumbai. After Mumbai, Panvel and Raigad reported the maximum number of new Covid-19 cases, at 151 and 268, respectively.
Thane reported 70 new cases, Navi Mumbai 83 and Vasai-Virar 58.
In the MMR, besides Mumbai, Raigad reported five deaths and Vasai-Virar three.
After a break of three days, the public vaccination centres in the city administered 67,495 doses on Monday. At private centres, 39,409 people were inoculated against Coronavirus from Sunday to Monday. Out of the total 1,06,904 vaccines administered, 55,893 were given to people in the 18-44 years age group and 1,046 to people planning to travel abroad.
The BMC was supposed to start vaccinating pregnant women from Monday, but it had to postpone the plan to Thursday due to shortage of vaccines. It had received a fresh stock of 1.30 lakh vaccines, and about half of them were exhausted on Monday.
