Covid-19: Mumbai records zero deaths, daily cases rise past 200

Mumbai did not record any fresh death linked to Covid-19 for a second time in 2022, on Tuesday, the BMC said. The city had reported zero fatalities on January 2. A day after the city logged fewer than 200 cases for the first time since December 13, 2021, the daily count rose marginally to 235. On Monday, the financial capital had reported 192 cases and two fatalities. In the past 24 hours, 25,338 Covid-19 tests, around 3,000 less than the previous day, were carried out in the city.

According to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulletin, with new addition, the tally of coronavirus infections in the city jumped to 10,54,477, while the death toll remained unchanged at 16,685. The metropolis remained free of sealed buildings and containment zones for the sixth straight day, and the number of active cases dropped to 2,301.

City's TPR at 0.92 per cent

The daily test positivity rate of Mumbai stood at 0.92 per cent. With 446 more patients discharged during the day, the recovered cases jumped to 10,32,632 and the city's Coronavirus recovery rate stood at 98 per cent. The cases doubling rate jumped to 1,813 days.

The bulletin said 197 of the 235 new patients, or around 84 per cent of the total, were asymptomatic. In the last 24 hours, only 38 patients were hospitalised and 14 put on oxygen support, it said. Also, only 972 of the total 36,853 hospital beds earmarked for Coronavirus patients are currently occupied in the city.

351 more Omicron cases

Across Maharashtra, the state health department recorded 2,831 fresh cases, including 351 Omicron infections, and 35 fatalities on Tuesday. The state has 30,547 active cases after 8,695 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours. The case fatality rate in the state now stands at 1.82 per cent, and the recovery rate is 97.73 per cent.

Of the 351 Omicron cases, 148 patients were found in Aurangabad, 111 in Nashik, 72 in Pune Municipal Corporation, 12 in Pune rural, five in Pimpri Chinchwad, two in Yavatmal and one in Satara.
