Covid-19: Mumbai records second wave’s lowest cases, fatalities

Mumbai recorded the second wave's lowest Covid-19 cases and fatalities till now on Monday with 208 fresh infections and three deaths. The city's test positivity rate (TPR) also saw a marginal drop at 0.78 per cent. For the first time the TPR had dipped below 1 per cent on July 29. The doubling rate dipped further and was 1,680 days on Monday.

Of the three deaths reported, three patients had comorbidities, two deaths were of those above 60 years of age and one death was of a patient between 40 and 60 years of age. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 372 people were discharged after full recovery.

The state's fresh Covid-19 cases saw a significant drop as 4,505 infections were reported on Monday. The fatalities also dropped at 68. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 7,568 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 68,375 active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a significant drop and cases remained below 1,000 on Monday. As per the state report, 611 Covid-19 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones in Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported 97 cases followed by Panvel with 75 cases. Kalyan-Dombivili reported 32 new cases while Thane saw 39 cases and Vasai-Virar 37.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered two Covid-19 fatalities on Monday. Palghar and Navi Mumbai reported one death each.

BMC to start mobile vaccination centres

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will set up four mobile vaccination centres to administer doses to prostitutes, street vendors, HIV patients, transgenders, construction workers and migrant workers. Additional commissioner, Suresh Kakani launched the initiative on Monday and made one of the centres operational. Each mobile centre will have one trained doctor, two nurses, two medical assistants and ambulance drivers.
