As daily cases begin to slide in the state, rising fatalities are keeping officials on their toes. Maharashtra hit another record with 974 deaths on Sunday, while Mumbai saw 60 people falling prey to the coronavirus.
Mumbai reported 1,544 new cases, slightly up from the previous day's count of 1,447. It discharged 2,438 patients, bringing down the overall count of active cases to 35,702. In the state, fresh infections numbered below 35,000.
Of those lives claimed by the contagious disease in Mumbai, 35 had comorbidities. Thirty-eight victims were above the age of 60 years, 19 were between 40 and 60 years of age, while three persons below 40 also succumbed to the virus.
The recovery rate of Mumbai has risen to 92 per cent and the doubling rate is now 231 days. As per the numbers shared by the BMC, the city tested 22,430 people of which 1,544 were found to be positive. This translates to a test positivity rate of 6.8 per cent.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region reported 4,431 cases on Sunday. Apart from Mumbai, Thane recorded 280 cases, Navi Mumbai 184 and Kalyan-Dombivli saw 441 cases. Excluding Mumbai, the MMR witnessed 92 deaths of which 30 were reported in Raigad and Panvel, 8 in Navi Mumbai, and 27 in Thane district.
The daily number of new cases in the state was 34,389 on Sunday. Pune circle reported 9,969 fresh infections, Nashik circle saw 8,834 cases and Nagpur reported 2,624 Covid-19 positive cases.
Of the 974 deaths across the state, 172 were from Nagpur. Pune reported 155 deaths, Kolhapur saw 142 and Nashik recorded 105 fatalities.
A total of 59,318 patients were discharged across Maharashtra, and the number of active cases stood at 4.7 lakh on Sunday.
