COVID-19: Maharashtra records 27 deaths, lowest since pandemic hit

The state continues to witness a downward trend in daily novel Coronavirus cases, whereas the city is still seeing fluctuations in the fresh number of infections. A day after reporting nearly 500 cases, Mumbai confirmed a little over 300 new ones on Monday.

State health department officials confirmed 27 deaths, the lowest since the pandemic was declared in March. The total death toll now stands at 51,109. They registered 1,948 new cases across Maharashtra, including 328 in the city. With Monday's figures, the state-wide total tally rose to over 20.28 lakh cases and Mumbai accounted for 3,09,303 of them.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation recorded 63, 63 and 46 cases, respectively.

The state's recovery rate now stands at 95.26 per cent, with 3,289 patients being discharged across the state on Monday. Mumbai's recovery rate was 94 per cent, while the doubling rate continues to improve, with currently being at 564 days. The city's daily growth rate in the past one week is just 0.12 per cent. The city currently has 5,656 active cases.

Of the 27 casualties in the state, Mumbai recorded the highest with nine deaths, followed by Nashik with four. However, barring Mumbai, there were zero deaths in other parts of the MMR. The BMC, however, reported a total of eight fatalities. Civic officials said that all eight deceased suffered from other ailments, while seven of them were senior citizens.The state's mortality rate was 2.52 per cent till date. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,243 till Monday. These deaths are of patients who had tested COVID-19 positive, then tested negative, but later died due to other complications.

Meanwhile, 1.46 crore laboratory samples have been collected across the state so far, and out of them 20.28 lakh have been tested positive, with 13.84 per cent positivity ratio.
