Covid-19 cases see a dip in Mumbai, test positivity rate recorded at 1.6 per cent

But the number of deaths is now a concern with 21 recorded in one day

Mumbai registered 575 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, after conducting more than 35,000 tests in a single day. While the city's test positivity rate reduced to merely 1.6 per cent, there were 69 new deaths reported in the last three days, which has become a cause for concern. Meanwhile, the state saw 9,489 fresh cases and 153 fatalities on Saturday.

On Saturday, 851 patients were discharged after full recovery in the city and the number of active patients reduced to 8,297.

But the number of deaths continues to be a concern. On Saturday, of the 21 deaths recorded, 17 patients had comorbidities, 12 deaths were of those above 60 years of age and nine were of patients between 40 and 60 years. The recovery rate is steady at 96 per cent and the doubling rate is 752 days.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 1,822 new cases on Saturday. Cities like Thane recorded 115 cases, Navi Mumbai 124 and Kalyan-Dombivli 119. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 44 deaths, out of which 34 were reported in Raigad.

The state recorded a total of 9,489 fresh infections with Pune circle reporting 3,092 cases and Kolhapur circle 3,423.

On Saturday, the state recorded the highest number of beneficiaries to have been inoculated. The state is at the top of the list for vaccinating the highest number of people in the country. On Saturday alone, the state administered 7,85,311 vaccine doses.

Meanwhile, after suspension on Thursday and a delayed start on Friday, Mumbai saw a good turnout too on the weekend. The number of inoculated beneficiaries recorded on Saturday in Mumbai yet again crossed the one lakh-mark. The civic body inoculated 63,306 beneficiaries, whereas 53 private hospitals inoculated 35,446 beneficiaries. However, there will be no drive on Sunday at public vaccine centres.

With Saturday's figures, the city totalled over 56,54,345 inoculations. The number of senior citizens inoculated were 9,347, citizens above the age of 45 were 31,564 and those in the age group of 18 to 44 were 60,383.
