It seems the trend of the type of Covid-19 cases being reported in the city has changed since what it was even last month. While in July the number of asymptomatic patients was more than the symptomatic ones, the trend has reversed now. According to data available on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) dashboard, the city has more number of symptomatic patients - almost 75 per cent (2,177) of the total active cases of 2,928. Further, among the active patients, 466 are critical and 285 are asymptomatic.

However, ward health officials said that many were in home quarantine with almost no requests for hospitalisations. Even many of the symptomatic patients were taking treatment at home from general physicians.

But when mid-day contacted Dr. Mangala Gomare, executive health officer, BMC, she said, "I have asked my team to verify the numbers again in case there are any errors. It will be updated again if that's the case."

However, if we go by the civic body's dashboard data, the trend was the same even on Thursday, when the number of symptomatic cases was way higher than the asymptomatic ones.

With the city reporting a gradual decrease in the daily Covid-19 cases, the situation of bed availability also appears to be quite comfortable. Finally some relaxations too are kicking in due to the declining trend and proper availability of beds.

Currently, a total of 21,063 beds across various facilities, which include Covid Care Centres, dedicated Covid health centres and dedicated Covid hospitals, are available.

Even the oxygenated bed occupancy is currently 11 per cent, which was one of the criteria to unlock the city. While 18,545 beds are lying vacant across all facilities, a couple of other jumbo centres are under construction and they will add to the numbers soon.
