Covid-19 cases, deaths in Mumbai dip; TPR rises to 1 per cent

The test positivity rate (TPR) in the city rose to 1 per cent on Friday from 0.96 per cent the day before. However, there was a marginal drop in daily cases and fatalities fell below 10 once again. According to the BMC's Friday data, Mumbai confirmed 323 more infections and seven deaths.

On Thursday, the city had registered 13 COVID-19 fatalities. Of the seven deaths, five patients had comorbidities, four were senior citizens and three were in the 40-59 years age group.

The city had reported the highest number of cases, at 11,163, on April 4. After that, the daily cases started declining. The TPR started falling after May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent. It has stayed below 2 per cent since June 28.

The doubling rate of novel Coronavirus infection in the city improved and was at 1,434 days. The recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and 366 people went back home after finishing the treatment.

According to the state-wide data, there was a slight dip in cases but fatalities rose past 200. State health department officials confirmed 6,600 cases and 231 deaths, up from 190 on Thursday. The case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent, and 7,431 people were discharged on Friday, leaving 77,494 active cases in the state.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as well, the daily COVID-19 infections reduced marginally to 1,007, including the ones reported in the city. Panvel reported 90 cases, Raigad 185, Navi Mumbai 83, Thane 65 and Vasai-Virar 46.

The COVID-19 fatalities rose significantly in the MMR to 30, excluding Mumbai's figure. Thane Municipal Corporation reported eight casualties, Raigad nine, Navi Mumbai three, and Palghar and Thane two each.
