After seeing a marginal rise on Wednesday, Mumbai's new cases and deaths dipped on Thursday. On Monday, the city had recorded the second wave's lowest daily cases and fatalities, post which there was a rise for consecutive days. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 279 new cases were registered along with 7 deaths in Mumbai on Thursday.
The city's test positivity rate saw a marginal dip and remained below 1 per cent on Thursday. While on August 10, it recorded the second wave's lowest TPR with 0.75 per cent , on Thursday it was 0.77 per cent . The doubling rate improved and was 1,819 days on Thursday.
Of the 7 deaths, 6 patients had comorbidities, 4 deaths were in the age group over 60 and 3 deaths were reported between 40 years-60 years of age. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 242 people recovered and were discharged on Thursday.
The state's COVID-19 cases saw a significant rise as 6,388 were registered on Thursday. The COVID-19 fatalities of the state also saw a rise for the second consecutive day as 208 deaths were reported. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 8,390 people recovered and got discharged on Thursday. Currently the state has 62,351 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal dip and cases remained below 1,000 on Thursday. As per the state report, 726 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Raigad with 115 reported the maximum new cases in MMR followed by Kalyan-Dombivli with 66 cases. Thane reported 46 new cases while Panvel saw 44 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 35 cases each on Thursday.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 74 COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday. Raigad saw 56 deaths, highest in MMR followed by Mumbai. While Vasai-Virar reported 5 deaths. Panvel and Thane saw 4 deaths each.
