Mumbai saw a steep rise in new cases on Wednesday along with a marginal increase in the test positivity rate. At 11, Covid-19 fatalities dropped compared to Tuesday. The BMC reported 830 fresh infections in the city with a TPR of 2.8 per cent against 2.42 per cent recorded a day earlier. As per the state government, 10,107 new cases were reported across Maharashtra.
The city reported the single-day peak of 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5, when the TPR stood at 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has continued to significantly improve and is now at 830 days.
The virus claimed 11 lives in Mumbai on Wednesday. Of these deaths, 10 patients were comorbid. While 10 victims were above 60 years of age, one person was in the 40-60 bracket. The city's recovery rate remains around 95 per cent and 1,300 people were discharged on Wednesday.
Maharashtra recorded 10,107 fresh infections and 237 deaths. The state fatality rate was 1.94 per cent. During the day, 10,567 people were discharged, bringing down the active caseload to 1.36 lakh.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 2,330 new cases, including Mumbai. Thane saw 116 new cases, while Kalyan-Dombivili and Navi Mumbai reported 119 82 cases respectively. Other than Mumbai, MMR lost 45 citizens to Coronavirus with 19 from Raigad. While 7 died in Thane, Navi Mumbai saw 2 deaths.
Civic officials said vaccination will be held only through online registration on Thursday.
