For the third consecutive day, on Wednesday, the number of tests done was lower than last week when an average of 16,000 tests were conducted every day. With fewer tests, the average number of daily cases in the city has also dropped. Health department officials on Wednesday confirmed over 2,100 novel Coronavirus cases in the state, including 435 in Mumbai.

On Wednesday, 13,455 tests for COVID-19 were conducted in the city, a little higher than 11,000-plus done over the past two days.
Across the state, officials registered a total of 2,171 new cases and 32 deaths from the deadly respiratory disease. Of the 32 casualties, six were reported in the city, out of which five patients had comorbidities, two were aged between 40 to 60 and four were above the age of 60.
The tally of active patients in the city has also dropped below 6,000. In mid-September, there were nearly 34,000 active cases in the city. After the discharge of 499 patients post-recovery, Mumbai currently has 5,644 active cases. The recovery rate has stabilised at 94 per cent.
The Test Positivity Rate stands at 3.2 per cent, higher than the rate recorded on Saturday and Sunday (2.6 per cent).
Among the 2,171 newly confirmed COVID-10 patients, 783 were from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including Mumbai. And besides Mumbai, all other cities in the MMR have been reporting fewer than 100 cases since last week.
Pune circle registered 447 cases while Nashik reported 275. Of the 32 deceased, 10 were reported in the MMR (including Mumbai) and six each in Nagpur and Pune circle.
As of Wednesday, the cumulative number of cases in the state stands above 20.16 lakh. Across the state, 2,556 patients recovered and were discharged, leaving about 43,000 active cases. The state's recovery rate has stabilised at 95.3 per cent.
