Covid-19: 168 new cases in city, 2 deaths; state count at 518

Mumbai saw a marginal rise in the test positivity rate as daily cases dipped below 200 on Monday. With fewer screenings happening, the city's TPR stood at 0.59 per cent.

On December 1, the city had registered the second wave's lowest TPR at 0.28 per cent.

As per a BMC report, there were 168 new cases in the city along with two deaths. Both the deceased were comorbid and were above the age of 60, showed the civic body's numbers.

The city had witnessed zero deaths for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, on October 17.

The state continued to see a significant dip in new COVID cases as well as fatalities. As per the state health department, 518 cases were reported along with 5 deaths across Maharashtra.

The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 811 recovered and got discharged. The state now has 6,853 active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region also saw a sharp drop in new infections. As per the state report, 298 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, the Thane Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily cases in MMR with 31 new infections. It was followed by Navi Mumbai at 27. While Kalyan-Dombivli saw 16 cases, Vasai-Virar reported 21 cases. Raigad saw 11 and Panvel had 9 cases.
