The ship of Cordelia Cruises with 66 Covid-19 cases returned to Mumbai on Tuesday evening, and all the patients were moved to either a jumbo centre or hotels, said a civic official. The remaining passengers and crew members were tested on arrival and their reports are expected today.
The ship carrying over 2,066 people arrived near Green Gate at Mumbai Port, Colaba, at 6 pm. A BMC official said, "RT-PCR test of the passengers who tested negative earlier was done at the green gate." Two laboratories conducted the tests and the reports will come by 9 am on Wednesday, and until then, no one will be allowed to disembark.
The ship had gone to Goa with 1,471 passengers and 595 crew members, but no one was allowed to disembark after a crew member tested positive for Covid-19. A medical team in Goa went aboard the ship, which was anchored near Mormugao Port cruise terminal in Vasco, and conducted RT-PCR tests of everyone. The ship was turned around after 66 people tested positive.
After it arrived in the city, five ambulances shifted Covid-19 patients to quarantine facilities. While some passengers went to Richardson and Cruddas jumbo centre at Byculla, others who wanted paid quarantine went to hotels. Passengers and crew members whose report comes back negative will be stamped for 7-day home isolation, while Covid-19 patients will be sent for institutional quarantine.
