Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a swipe at Congress leaders on Friday, likening them to the forgetful protagonist in the film 'Ghajini,' alleging that they suffer from memory loss, promptly forgetting their election promises after victory. Fadnavis made these remarks at a campaign rally in Burhanpur assembly constituency, in Madhya Pradesh, ahead of the November 17 elections, supporting BJP candidate Archana Chitnis.
In his address, as reported by news agency PTI, Fadnavis criticized Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Kamal Nath, asserting that Congress leaders make announcements but fail to deliver on their assurances once elected. Drawing parallels with the character played by Aamir Khan in the 2008 film 'Ghajini,' who suffers from amnesia, Fadnavis claimed, 'Congress is suffering from the disease of Ghajini.'"
He further accused Congress leaders of prioritizing their families over the welfare of the people and the poor after winning elections. Fadnavis contrasted this with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, asserting that their administrations focused on the common people and the poor.

Fadnavis highlighted the fulfillment of the 'roti, kapda aur makan' promise under the Modi government, citing the provision of pucca houses to five crore poor families in the last nine years. He also mentioned other welfare schemes, such as free ration distribution, tap water to every home, and the Ayushman scheme for free medical treatment in Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Friday said Bharatiya Janata Party brought down the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh using money power.
The Congress government under Nath, which came to power after the Assembly polls in 2018, collapsed in March 2020 following a revolt by several MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia. It paved the way for the return of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief minister, while the rebel MLAs and Scindia joined the BJP.
Addressing a rally in Rajpur in Barwani, Gandhi said, "We had promised to waive farm loans in the last assembly polls. We wrote off loans of 25 lakh farmers but the BJP and their big industrialist friends stole your government by giving money to legislators."
Slamming the BJP further, he said the ruling party refers to tribals as 'vanvasi' or forest-dwellers, while the correct term is Adivasi or original inhabitants, which the Congress uses.
Forests are shrinking and after 15 years the BJP will ask 'vanvasis' to go to cities and beg, Gandhi claimed. (With inputs from PTI)
