More than eight months after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted an apology for inconvenience caused to Mumbaikars during his visit to the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) on March 1, the Director General of Police (DGP-Maharashtra) expressed his displeasure and reprimanded two officers responsible for managing traffic in the area during the CM's visit.

Following an initial inquiry, Keshav Patil was shunted from DCP Traffic to DCP Headquarters

The officers have been identified as DCP (Thane Special Branch) Keshav Gotu Patil and ACP Narsingh Tukaram Sherkhane (Local Arms Unit). Back then, these officers were part of the Traffic police department.

DGP Pravin Dixit censured the officers for their inability to manage traffic on the evening of the CM's visit, resulting in his convoy, with Z-plus security, getting stuck in a traffic jam. "Displeasure was conveyed to these officers after approval from the earlier DGP," said Dixit.

Commenting on how the censure could affect the two officers, a Tardeo police officer said, "Today, the DGP has expressed his annoyance with the officers. His displeasure could affect their future promotions and increments."

"There were clashes between the NSCI members and cops, after the former weren't allowed to enter the club because the CM was visiting. In addition, a two-hour-long jam was experienced by motorists at the Worli-end of the sea link, Worli Naka and near Atria Mall. Thousands of commuters had to suffer," said a police officer from Tardeo police station. "Primary reasons for the jam were police bandobast, dug-up roads in Tardeo, another event at Mahalaxmi racecourse and mismanagement by the cops."

Earlier, an inquiry had been initiated and the then police commissioner Rakesh Maria had shunted Keshav Patil from DCP Traffic to DCP Headquarters.

The action was initiated based on the inquiry report filed by Additional Commissioner of Police (Central region) Ramrao Shinde.
