Park in Kalyan`s Gauripada
As Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is coming for the inauguration of the much-awaited city park in Kalyan's Gauripada, residents are happy that the nearby area is beautified, and the roads are cleaned. The city park near Gauripada in Kalyan was supposed to be inaugurated by Shinde on Saturday, but it was postponed as Shinde is busy, and it will be inaugurated according to his further schedule.
However, the authorities from Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) started beautifying the nearby area of the city park last week. A senior official from KDMC said, "The inauguration was about to take place on Saturday. But as the Chief Minister had some work, the inauguration has been postponed, and the date will be announced as per his further schedule," said the official.
When mid-day visited the area, painting of the divider and cleaning of the road beautifying the area work were going on at speed. At the same time, KDMC officials had given a letter on January 10 to the chairman of Guru Atman Society, which is located just opposite the city park. The letter states that residents are requested to remove all the unwanted vehicles parked on the road, or action will be taken, and towing vans will pick up the vehicles.

Swapna Shelar, 39, a resident of the Gauripada area, said, "We are happy that the area is beautified, and secondly, the garden with different amenities is opening for us. The beauty of the area is taking a turn. We hope that the KDMC frequently carries out such a clean-up drive, which will help us stay in a healthy environment."
KDMC's Land Acquisition dispute
In 2010, ShivSena chief Uddhav Thackeray announced the development of a city park while campaigning for the civic elections. In 2012, the project was pushed again when former mayor Vaijanti Gholap approved the proposal. Due to a lack of funds, the project took a halt. Taking an idea to use the central government's smart city scheme, the civic body then decided to take it forward using this scheme. A total of Rs 110 crore was expected to be spent, and the park is developed at reservation no. 174, Gauripada, Kalyan (West). The city park is in a 23-acre plot located along the Waldhuni river. There was also a protest from local activists a few years ago as KDMC was going to acquire some space of Waldhuni river as the land was connected.
