Days after five people were arrested for their alleged role in the offensive Sulli Deals and Bulli Bai apps, obscene comments against Muslim women have surfaced on the audio chat application Clubhouse. The Maharashtra cyber police have sought information from Clubhouse about the people involved in the objectionable chat.
The matter came to light after Twitter handle @jaiminism shared a recording of the conversation about Muslim women on Clubhouse. Members who went by the names Bismillah and Sallos start the chat. A Twitter user has claimed that Sallos has deleted his ID - sallos.hell with 382 followers - after the discussion on the audio app went viral on social media. Bismilah's Clubhouse ID is wtf.astic and has 291 followers. Jaimine told mid-day, "The video was recorded by my friend who does not want to reveal his name. So I took the risk, and posted it."
A cyber police officer said, "The Clubhouse app is being handled from outside India. It's is available on Google Play. People are raising questions about this app on social media. To ensure there is no controversy due to this, we have sent a notice to Clubhouse app under CrPC Act 91." The officer said they have sought more information about the objectionable discussion happening in the chatroom and the participants.
Maharashtra Cyber Police IG Yashasvi Yadav said, "We keep an eye on the wrong messages being circulated on social media. We have started our inhouse inquiry into this matter." Meanwhile, the Delhi police have also written to Clubhouse seeking information about the participants and the chatroom. Earlier this month, over 100 successful Muslim women were targeted through the Bulli Bai, triggering massive outrage. Last July, another app - Sulli Deals - had targeted Muslim women in a similar fashion.
