The Mumbai Crime Branch yesterday filed their objection to the bail application filed by Chintan Upadhyay, who stands accused of conspiring the murder of his wife and fellow artist Hema Upadhyay.
Chintan's lawyer, Bharat Manghani had filed the bail application before the Dindoshi Sessions court on September 2. In their reply, the police stated that Chintan and Hema used to fight frequently over his multiple extra-marital affairs. In addition, one of the accused - Pradeep Rajbhar - revealed in his confession that Chintan was the main conspirator. Now, however, Rajbhar is turning back from his statement, and cops are of the opinion that this is because of pressure from Chintan. The cops also added that if Chintan is granted bail, he might help or influence the prime accused Vidyadhar Rajbhar, who is currently absconding.
The cops emphasised that they were yet to file additional technical evidence before the court and since Chintan is not a Mumbai resident, once he receives bail, he might disappear. The matter was adjourned to October 25, when arguments on the bail application are likely to be heard.
