The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Std X result on Tuesday, and it led to celebrations for many students with good scores and their schools. After the anticipation and anxiety around the first ever CBSE Std XII result without an exam recently; the outcome of the Std X result is fair and justified, said city schools.
"Compared to earlier results of schools, the performance now is similar. Th
ere are no drastic differences and this indicates that though there was no traditional exam, schools and the board have been fair in scoring students. The CBSE's decision to have a reference year from the past academic performances in the board exam has been important," said Suman Samarth, headmistresses for the secondary section at the R N Podar School. At this Santacruz school, out of 308 students; 116 have scored above 95 per cent. The school average is 99.29 per cent and most of its students have scored above 85 per cent. Kalpana Dwivedi, principal of the Bal Bharati Public School, said, "The CBSE board has given a fair formula and the calculations were done accordingly. Since there was a reference year; marks could not be inflated, as we were not allowed to do significant pluses and minuses to ensure that this result matched the past records. With justified marks coming from across boards, even without the traditional exam; we must review need for CET for Std XI admissions."
