Twenty-nine-year-old Chetan Parkar has been doing odd jobs since the time he lost his administrative job at a college just after the pandemic hit the city. His wife, Aarti Parkar, who conceived her first child around the same time, has also been jobless since then. Chetan says that all these months have been difficult for them, but he hopes to find a job soon with the economy slowly recovering.
Earlier, Chetan used to earn Rs 12,000 from his college job, which was on a contractual basis. He would make some more money by doing deliveries for various online portals and earn about Rs 15,000-Rs 18,000 every month. But since the past couple of months, the family has been surviving on their savings.
Speaking to mid-day, Chetan said, "It has been a very difficult time for us. Though we are very happy about the baby's arrival, we still worry about our future. I have been doing odd jobs to ensure that we earn something but it is not enough. I hope this time around the government doesn't levy any additional taxes or increase prices of daily necessities because then survival will become even more difficult."
His wife Aarti said, "The last couple of months have been difficult but we hope to get jobs soon so that we can give our child a better future. We also hope that the government helps us by providing a stable economy and more employment."
