The BMC has spent Rs 269 crore through SevenHills Hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients till August end.
Over 37,500 patients were admitted at the hospital during the first and second waves, of which 16,500 were during the second wave. The BMC converted the 306-bed SevenHills hospital into a 1,500-bed centre, including 300 ICU beds.
BMC had set up this special COVID centre in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. It is the first special COVID hospital in the city. From March 2020 to December 2020, the corporation spent Rs 118.65 crore on patient care and administrative expenses. From January 2021 to March 2021, it spent more than Rs 63.93 crore.
"There were 37,621 patients admitted and 33,445 were discharged till August 20 this year. The total amount spent includes management of vaccination centres," said a BMC official.
