In a bid to enhance the Mumbai Darshan experience for tourists and ensure uninterrupted services, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is rolling out a fleet of electric double-decker buses. This move comes as the existing open deck buses, which have been a beloved fixture of Mumbai tourism for many years, are set to be retired in accordance with government regulations on October 5, 2023, an official statement said.
Tourists and locals alike have cherished the iconic 'Mumbai Darshan' service, which takes them on a captivating journey through some of Mumbai's most iconic landmarks, including the Ministry, Vidhan Bhavan, C. S. M.T, BMC, Hutatma Chowk, Horniman Circle, RBI, Prince of Wales Museum, Asiatic Library, Old Custom House, NCPA, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Churchgate Station, Oval Ground, and more, the statement said.
The 'Open Deck' buses have provided a unique and exhilarating way to explore the city, offering passengers a fresh perspective on Mumbai's vibrant culture and history. Due to their immense popularity, the BEST has taken steps to ensure that the spirit of 'Mumbai Darshan' lives on.
To ensure a seamless transition and continuity of the service, the BEST initiative has introduced air-conditioned double-decker buses as a temporary measure until the procurement of new 'open deck' double-decker buses is completed. These electric buses are not only eco-friendly but also offer passengers a comfortable and quiet ride, free from noise and air pollution.

Starting this week, three air-conditioned double-decker coaches will be operational on weekdays, and five on Fridays and weekends, ensuring that tourists can continue to enjoy the 'Mumbai Darshan' experience without any disruptions. These buses come equipped with modern amenities, including automatic entry on the side for passenger convenience, CCTV security, and mobile charging facilities.
In response to the positive feedback from passengers and the enduring popularity of the 'Mumbai Darshan' service, the BEST initiative has also initiated the process of procuring new double-decker 'Open Deck' buses.
