One more Omicron case has been confirmed as a 40-year-old man from Nagpur, who arrived from South Africa on December 5, testing positive for the variant, as per a report released by the National Institute of Virology on Saturday. The number of Omicron cases has now reached 18 - five from Mumbai, 10 from Pimpri-Chinchwad and one each from Kalyan Dombvli, Pune and Nagpur. None of them have recovered and been discharged.
The patient from Nagpur is currently in isolation at AIIMS Nagpur with mild symptoms. The authorities traced 30 of his close contacts, all of whom have tested negative for Covid-19. The patient had earlier contracted the disease on April 11. As he had only mild symptoms, he did not have to be hospitalised. He has not taken even one dose of vaccine so far.
A total of 77,530 international passengers arrived in the state since December 1, out of these, 11,751 were from at-risk countries. In addition, 1,529 passengers from other countries were also tested at the airports. Of the passengers tested, 22 passengers from at-risk countries and eight from other countries tested positive. Additionally, field surveillance of all international passengers who have arrived since November 1 is underway. Through airport and field surveillance, 107 samples have been sent for genome sequencing and the results of 26 such samples are awaited.
