Even as the lockdown has been extended in the city, school teachers want permission to board local trains as they rush to schools to begin board exam result related work. The Mumbai Secondary and Higher Secondary School Principals' Association has written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray regarding this.

Now that both board exams are cancelled and internal assessment reports of all students are expected from schools to declare SSC (Secondary School Certificate) and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) results; teaching and non-teaching staff of schools in the city say they need to be allowed to use local trains. SSC results are expected by June end and soon after HSC, too.

"Due to the lockdown all teachers were working from home. However, with recent developments on board examinations, the state government's education department has been asking specific details of students constantly in order to understand how results can be declared. These details can be provided properly if the teachers concerned are in school," states the letter.

Adding to this, Pandurang Kengar, secretary of the association, said, "SSC results have to be declared before June end. And, now HSC results will also be based on internal assessment records of students available with schools. All this has to be managed properly. As many teachers in Mumbai live far away from their respective schools, trains are the only means to travel."
