Mumbai civic body releases list of 21 days between June 5 and September 20 when the Arabian Sea high tide will cross 4.5 metres; June 6th is set to be highest at 4.91 metres

Ahead of the arrival of monsoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take precaution by issuing warnings about days that will see particularly 'high' high tides. A circular highlighting 21 days between June 5 and September 20 has been sent to the Railways so that they can take precautionary measures.

In the shortlisted days, waves during the high tide will cross a height of 4.5 metres. seven of these days may also see the waves attaining heights of over 4.7 meters. If these days clash with heavy rainfall, it will pose a serious threat to the island city.

The Railways and BMC officials have already been started joint inspections and the first round will be completed by June 1st. It also includes provision of pumps by BMC at locations where the blockage in the drainage is likely. A hotline has been set up between MCGM Disaster control and Western Railway Traffic control for faster communications during emergencies.
