The Mumbai Traffic Police will take action against autorickshaw and taxi drivers who refuse fares, the police said in a statement on Monday.

The official statement which was also posted on the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Traffic Police said, "action will be taken against auto and taxi drivers who refuse fares, under MVA section 178 (3),1988."

It said, "A meeting will be organised to sensitise the drivers to behave better with citizens and aid in a hassle free commute. The police officials will be sensitised as well."

There has been complaints in the past regarding auto and taxi drivers refusing passengers for rides. Recently, Mumbai Police had received complaints regarding autorickshaw drivers in Kurla. A a journalist who wanted to reach Bandra-Kurla Complex was refused a ride.

The Mumbai based journalist had alleged that he was manhandled by a cop when he reached out to him. In the matter, a Non-cognizable offence was registered with the Kurla Police later.
