The issue of traffic jams while entering and leaving Mumbai from Dahisar toll plaza has been a major headache. Everyday motorists get stuck in the traffic jams during morning and evening peak hours and at times it even takes 20-30 minutes to cover a distance of less than 500 metres.
Talking to mid-day, activist Gopal Jhaveri said, "We have protested about the issue and an online campaign was also started on Twitter with the intention of resolving the problem. After this, the authorities had cleared the non-operational booths that were blocking the road. Our demand to the authorities is that they should take appropriate measures and move the toll plaza ahead."
Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas said, "We visited the spot along with the minister and officials from other departments and are working on a plan so that the traffic jams at Dahisar toll plaza are resolved at the earliest. A portion of the south-bound service road while coming towards Mumbai was closed near Dahisar Jumbo COVID Centre, and in next one week it will be repaired and thrown open to vehicles." Shifting of the toll plaza for which MMRDA has paid money to MSRDC was also discussed during Thackeray's visit.
