A group of women from Madh gaothan on Wednesday thwarted the BMC's attempts to raze their houses. Succumbing to the pressure, the Mumbai civic body has now given them 2 months to furnish documents, failing which the houses will be demolished
A group of women from Madh gaothan on Wednesday thwarted the BMC's attempts to raze their houses. Succumbing to the pressure, the Mumbai civic body has now given them 2 months to furnish documents, failing which the houses will be demolished.
On Wednesday morning, officials from the BMC's P North ward office tried to demolish some houses at Madh gaothan. While the officials claimed the houses were illegal, the residents denied the accusations.
The residents also alleged that they were being singled out and a blind eye being turned towards actual illegal construction.
Women stage a dharna in front of BMC's bulldozers at Madh goathan
When the BMC and local police tried to demolish the structures, some women from the gaothan staged a dharna in front of the bulldozers to prevent them from moving ahead. Work remained stalled till afternoon when local politicians intervened.
Finally, the villagers were given two months' time to furnish their documents, failing which action would be initiated again.
