Deceased's grandfather detained by cops for questioning

It was about 3 am yesterday, when Kajol Goraksh sat up with a start in her Vikhroli residence. She had had a bad dream. But the real nightmare awaited her as she made her way to her 14-day-old daughter Pooja, who was asleep nearby. Noticing that the baby was motionless, Kajol called her husband. After failing to stir the child for several minutes, the couple finally realised she was dead.

Ashok Goraksh is the prime suspect in the murder of his 14-day-old granddaughter

On the basis of suspicion, police officials have detained Pooja's grandfather, who is a resident of Kalyan. The complainants said that he used to often show up at their doorstep late at night. Cops initially registered a case of accidental death, despite conceding that there were strangulation marks on the baby's neck. After a post- mortem confirmed murder, an FIR was lodged under section 302 (murder) of IPC.

"We have detained the grandfather, Ashok Goraksh, for questioning, and we will arrest him if his role is established in the murder. The child stayed with her parents, grandmother, and her father's two younger brothers," said a police officer, who did not wish to be named. According to Kajol, she had gone to bed after feeding Pooja at 1 am.
