'The thing about stars is that most of them wake up late', says Delhi-based Manav Gangwani who designed the wedding dress, an ivory-gold Tibetan brocade sherwani, for ace boxer Vijender Singh

When Manav Gangwani got a call from superstar boxer Vijender Singh last Sunday asking if he could stop over at Gangwani's workshop, he assumed that it would be a formal visit to hand over his wedding invite.

A couple of hours later, however, Gangwani sat busy sketching outfits that would make the hot boxer look dapper as he tied the knot with his ladylove yesterday.

"The thing about stars is that most of them wake up late," Gangwani told us over phone from his New Delhi workshop.

"But the best thing about Vijender is that he has got such a vibrant personality that he can carry anything off."

The 25 year-old Beijing Olympics bronze medalist who had to make do with a bronze medal after a disappointing stint in the Arafura Games last week, tied the knot with Delhi-based software engineer Archana, in a low-key wedding in the capital.

"Vijender insists on a good fit more than anything else," says Gangwani who got together an ivory-gold Tibetan brocade sherwani, subtly accentuated with Swarovski crystals at the front placket and dramatically combined with a gold collar and cuffs, for the wedding ceremony.

For the reception that takes place today at Vijender's native village in Kaluwas in Bhiwani, Gangwani has again chosen to stick with the rather non-experimental colour of gold with an embroidered sherwani.

It comes with a built-in collar with black velvet appliqu ufffd, a sprinkling of Swarovski crystals that usually mark his collections and a hint of emerald crystals.

"I have known Vijender for a while and know his style and what he likes. He trusts very easily and apart from the insistence on the right fit, he left the colour schemes, designs and cuts entirely up to me."

They did it too

>> Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi
For her sangeet, Lara went in for a lehenga in shades of marigold with a French net, and a sexy choli designed by Gangwani. She teamed this with an uncut diamond necklace set and a maangtika. Mahesh wore a chikankari churidar kurta by the same designer with a stole to match Lara's ensemble.

>> Pooja Batra
Apart from Suneet Varma, this leggy actress who tied the knot with a US-based doctor in 2003, also had Gangwani makeu00a0 her a yellow gharara with crystal embellishements.

>> Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani
For this yesteryears' actress, Manav designed as many as 60-odd garments, including the refurbished wedding attire, which was originally Raveena's mom's. Apart from spending four months to get the right look for the bride, Gangwani also designed clothes for the entire Tandon family.
