Mumbai-based stand-up comedy group AIB's Tanmay Bhat courts controversy with video that 'roasts' Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar. Twitterati lash out at comedian for 'insulting' Indian icons
Mumbai-based stand-up comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB) has a habit of landing in controversies. The outfit introduced celebrity 'roasting' in India with Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh last year to a disastrous effect
Well, now, one of it's founding members -- Tanmay Bhat -- has landed in a soup for his latest video that 'roasts' Indian icons Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar.
Tanmay seems to have more than ruffled a few feathers with his video and has faced a barrage of criticism for his video.
A screen grab of the 'offending' video
The video sees the comedian superimposing the faces of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and musical legend Lata Mangeshkar using Snapchat's unique face-swap feature. The 'face-swapped' Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar are seen arguing oveer whether Virat Kohli is better than the Master Blaster.
Tanmay mimics both jibes the 86-year-old melody queen and the 43-year-old cricketing legend and also throws Vinod Kambli into the mix for good measure.
He wrote on FB, "Sachin vs Lata Civil War (I make such nonsense on my Snapchat...)" He though added the disclaimer that he loved both the icons. "Also, I obvously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun," he posted on the social media platform. But to no avail.
The video shows the comedian 'roasting' the duo with digs like "You are 5000 years old so shut up" and "Jon Snow also died, so should you also die".
Most fans of the legends and some Bollywood celebs couldn't take this 'comedy' and lost their cool and lashed out at the comedian for the "disrespectful" comments.
Here are some of the reactions to the video on the Bharat Ratna awardees:
Bollywood too got into the act.
As did politicians.
