Durga Puja is one of the grandest festivals in the country and is celebrated with complete splendor everywhere
This Durgotsava in Mumbai is more than just glitz and glamour
Durga Puja is one of the grandest festivals in the country and is celebrated with complete splendor everywhere. Be it the beautiful pandals, the cultural extravaganza or the amazing food stalls, each Durga Puja in Mumbai tries to be better than the other. This, in turn, makes the entire festival even more glamorous.
However, there's one Durga Puja in the city which is more than what catches the eye. Hillside Residents Cultural and Welfare association was started by a group of nostalgic individuals who somehow missed the true essence of Durga Puja in the city. Their vision was to create not just another Puja in the neighborhood but to create an everlasting memory and bond, not just through cultural events but also welfare activities.
This year marked the 3rd Sarvajanin Durgotsava of HRCWA, and in the past three years, it has fought all odds to create a special place in the hearts of many. But what makes HRCWA special is its welfare initiatives. With over 150 listed members and a squad of youngsters, they have undertaken initiatives for the underprivileged children under the 'Shiksha Shakti' scheme. With the help of Mahindra and Mahindra, they've distributed books and school stationery to over a 100 underprivileged children in Kandivali. They also put in selfless efforts in collecting necessity goods during the Nepal earthquake and the Damu Nagar fire.
