Merchant Navy Captain Nalin B Pandey wants to meet hero who took charge at Taj

Merchant Navy Captain Nalin B Pandey has been all over the world, but not to South Africa.

He hopes he'll visit the country soon, if not for sightseeing, then to meet the six security commandos who saved several lives at the Taj Mahal Hotel on November 26 last year.

Grateful: Nalin Pandey

"I can only recollect the name of Bob Nicholls, whose company was in charge of the security of the cancelled Champions League.

They took charge of the situation the moment we heard the first hand grenade explode around 9.30 pm," said Pandey.

Though not obliged to protect a group of strangers, the six commandoes "kept reassuring the scared guests that no harm would befall them and if the need arose, they would fight terrorists with kitchen knives.

They sealed all entrances by stacking up furniture against the door", said Pandey.

When the rescue team arrived at 3.30 am the next day, Nicholls first crosschecked their identities and only then opened the doors.
