The trio, identified as Yogesh Chavan, Pandurang Chavan and Navnath Chavan, were arrested from a village in Igatpuri on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. "We have recovered R2.32 crores from them," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Parag Manere of Thane crime branch.
"The total recovery in the case with this arrest has gone up to Rs 6.5 crores," said Madan Bhalar, Senior Police Inspector of Unit 1 of the Thane crime branch. In the wee hours of Tuesday, eight armed men - with their faces covered with monkey caps and handkerchiefs - barged into the premises of Checkmate Cash Management Services Pvt. Ltd. in Thane, catching the employees and guards unawares and holding them hostage. "They threatened the two watchmen with guns and knives, and robbed the cash from the firm that distributes cash from banks to ATMs," added Bhalar.
The police had already made six arrests in the case including the firm's employee Amol Karle. Manere revealed that during the interrogation of employees, Karle's responses appeared flaky which raised suspicion.
