The Thane police, investigating the Rs 2,000-crore drugs haul case, are gathering evidence against former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, who has been booked in the case. Kulkarni along with her husband Vicky Goswami is accused of running an international drug racket from Kenya.

Mamta Kulkarni's sister claimed she was not aware of her drugs business

The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Thane Crime Branch had called Molina Mukund Kulkarni (50), the elder sister of Mamta Kulkarni, and Sanjay Sharma, a bank manager, for questioning and to gather evidence against Kulkarni. "We sent summons to both of them as we found that they were in touch with Kulkarni. Sharma used to take care of her bank accounts," said an official.

Unaware of business
Molina, who resides in Mira Road, was questioned about Kulkarni's background, and whether she was aware of her drug business. But she claimed she was unaware. "She claims that she is in regular touch with her over the phone. Both of them contact each other and discuss their well being," said a police officer.

Sharma was called in for the third time in past one month for questioning. "In his statement he claims that he was in regular touch with Kulkarni for over 15 years, since she first came to open an account in the bank. Till 3 months back, he used to get calls from Kulkarni, asking to check the account status or transfer cash. Sharma claims that she had more than six accounts in the bank," added the official.

The three flats of Kulkarni in Versova are also on the police radar. The police claimed that the maintenance of the three flats was paid through her bank account in Malad with the help of Sharma.
