Two thieves who wanted to clean out an Ulhasnagar bank, and had entered it after breaking the iron grille on the terrace, left empty-handed as they were unable to break open the safe. The Ulhasnagar police have registered a case and are searching for the accused on the basis of CCTV footage.
mid-day has the CCTV footage that shows the accused covering their faces with their shirts and roaming in the bank. According to the police, the two accused attempted the robbery at a Bank of Baroda branch at Nehru Nagar in Ulhasnagar number 2. "The bank is in a three-storey building, which has the safety locker on the first floor. They entered from behind. On entering the terrace they broke the iron lock and half of the iron grille, and went on the first floor where they messed up everything. They then tried to break open the safe in which more than R50 lakh were kept. But they couldn't do so and left empty-handed," said a senior official from Ulhasnagar police station.
The robbers entered the bank on Monday at 2:40am and were trying to get the cash for more than half an hour. "On Monday after the bank was opened, the staffers found everything in a mess and the terrace door open. They then informed us. We have gathered CCTV footage from the bank and on the basis of it we are looking for the accused," said Shakeel Shaikh, Senior Police Inspector, Ulhasnagar police station.
Shaikh said, "We have instructed the bank employees to employ at least two watchmen and increase CCTV coverage on all the three floors. Also, they should use some technology which will keep the bank secure." Pradeep Survase (33), the senior cashier of the bank, registered an FIR.
