In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old man from Thane died on his way to the hospital after consuming rat poison. The man was moved to the hospital in a truck after an hour-long wait for an ambulance becomes futile, leading to his death.

The victim has been identified as Kashinath Mangla Pawar, who worked as a labourer. Pawar had a fight with his brother, leading him to consume the poison. The man's family immediately rushed him to the Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital at Bhiwandi.

However, doctors found Pawar's condition to be serious and asked the family to shift the patient to the Thane civil hospital. However, the IGM hospital did not have any functional ambulances, forcing the family to transport Pawar in a truck.

A report in the Hindustan Times quotes Pawar's relative as having stated, "We then checked with the hospital for the ambulance but were asked to check outside. One of the relatives also dialled 108 but it did not help. We finally took the help of a truck driver . We kept him in the drivers' cabin."

The doctors who attended to Pawar at IGM,Dr Arif Shaikh, Dr Somayya are reported to have joined two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the HT report quotes Dr Anil Thorat, medical superintendent of IGM as having responded, "We have asked for an explanation for shifting the patient. We have 4 ambulances and two are under maintenance while the other two are not in a good condition. We had called for ambulances but they were stuck in traffic. We did not tell them to take Pawar in a truck."

Pawar, hails from Jawhar, and had only moved to Bhiwandi three months ago in search of a job. The police have forwarded the case to the Bhiwandi branch.
