A 50-year-old watchman, who was about to complete his first day of work at a residential complex in Kalyan (west), was assaulted by three locals on March 18 with a table fan. He succumbed to his injuries in Sion Hospital on March 25. The Khadakpada police are trying to trace the accused with the help of CCTV footage.

The three accused were fighting and the watchman had asked them to move away from the gate.
mid-day has the CCTV footage that shows Ganesh Khilare (50), who was on duty at Season Heaven residential complex near Godrej Hills in Khadakpada, Kalyan West, being beaten with a fan in the incident that took place between 12.30 am and 12.45 am on March 18. "The CCTV footage clearly shows that the three accused were fighting amongst themselves in front of the complex gate. The first time, Khilare closed the gate and came to his cabin. Later, the accused came inside while hitting each other. Khilare approached them and asked them to continue the fight leaving the complex gate, as they were fighting and shouting loudly at night," said Dinesh Sonawane, Assistant Police Inspector, Khadakpada police station.
Police said the accused, who were angry about Khilare asking them to leave, first slapped him. "One of them then came running towards the cabin and took the table fan and started assaulting Khilare on his head. He hit him more than 5 times till the fan broke into two pieces. They later took him out of the gate while assaulting him badly," added Sonawane.
The injured Khilare was first shifted to Rukmani Bai hospital in Kalyan and later to Sion Hospital. "On March 25, Khilare who had suffered a severe head injury, succumbed to injuries," added Sonawane.
The Khadakpada police in Kalyan earlier registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. "After he succumbed to his injuries we added section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
With the help of the CCTV footage from the complex we are trying to trace the three accused who are locals from a nearby area and are absconding. We suspect they were drunk that night and had a fight over some issue," added Sonawane.
