Mumbai: On Tuesday morning, residents of Kharghar had a harrowing time after power supply to its few Sectors went off for more than six hours.
A technical failure in the transformer stationed at Sector 12 affected the power supply of Sector 7 and 12 in Kharghar.
The incident took place at around 3.30 am on Tuesday. Shopkeepers, especially travel agents and cyber café owners, at Sector 7 revealed that the power cut affected their business.
"I open my shop at 9 am every morning, however, due to the power cut I had no customers till the power was restored," said Ramesh Patil, a cyber café owner.
Officials from the MSEB sub station revealed that a flash over insulator made the repair work more tedious and hence it took time to restore the power. "There are three transformers in Sector 12, however, the bigger one got affected and hence the rest two did not have the capacity to carry the entire load. Because of which there was a power cut for a long time," said Manik Rathod, MSEB engineer-in-charge of Kharghar node.
The bakery and pastry shop owners had plugged in generators to maintain the qualities of the pastries. However, the power was restored only by 2.00 pm in the afternoon.
