Suspended police officer Pradeep Sawant was today reinstated into the force, Maharashtra Director General of Police S S Virk said here, five years after he was arrested in the fake stamp paper case.


Suspended police officer Pradeep Sawant was today reinstated into the force, Maharashtra Director General of Police S S Virk said here, five years after he was arrested in the fake stamp paper case.

Sawant had been suspended for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam masterminded by Abdul Karim Telgi.

He was arrested in January 2004 for allegedly shielding Telgi, but subsequently discharged by a special court in Pune in June 2007 for want of evidence.

Sawant was a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Mumbai at the time of his arrest.
