These are the allegations made by parents of children from the neighbouring school, and locals, against GSB Seva Mandal at Wadala. Since the past 12 days, one lane next to the footpath has been partially closed on RA Kidwai Marg of Wadala.
This closed lane is adjacent to six buildings and it ends at the entrance/exit point of GSB Mandal. There are four lanes in all on this road, separated by dividers in the middle and the road is frequently used by heavy vehicles like multi-axle trailers, trucks and tempos, apart from other smaller vehicles.
Amulakh Amichand school comes right next to the pandal, while SNDT college shares the ground where Mumbai's richest Ganesh mandal is located. "Since August end the lane along the footpath has been closed and barriers have been placed and men are sitting at the start of the road.
It was very difficult while dropping children to the school early in the morning as they are forced to walk for a few minutes till the school premises," said a parent whose child studies at this school. Many of the vehicles are forced to park on the second lane for dropping the kids at the school, amidst the open lane with other vehicles plying on this road.
Meanwhile, the locals claim that the closure of the road makes movement very difficult, especially in times of emergency. "The pandals meant for keeping shoes and chappals have been built, and for this purpose, the entire road is closed. Moreover, the footpath is blocked by debris that comes out of this work being carried out," said a local resident.
