"It's time to pick up swords and not light candles," said former Punjab DGP KPS Gill.u00a0 Speaking on the occasion of Preparedness to Fight Terrorism at NCPA, Gill said he would have been happy to see Mumbai police lead the attack at Taj during the 26/11 siege.

Gill, who is credited with flushing out terrorism from Punjab in the 80s, said it was important to have political consensus to fight terror.

The Punjab supercop stressed the need to strengthen the local police in order to fight terror. "Fighting terror is a small commander's war. Give local police the required training and motivation and they will deliver the goods," he said.

He appealed to the politicians to be honest with the security forces. "Corruption is the root cause of terrorism," he said.
