400 elite anti-Naxal Bihar Military Police personnel to be deployed during the Assembly elections

Four hundred personnel from five companies of Bihar's elite anti-Naxal force, the Bihar Military Police (BMP) led by Commandant Ajay Kumar Mishra, are to arrive in Mumbai on October 1 to bolster the security arrangements during the upcoming Assembly polls in the state.

The BMP's movement follows a decision made last month at a joint meeting of senior officials of the Election Commission (EC) and the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi, where director generals of police (DGP) of all states, including Maharashtra, were present.

DGP Bihar Anand Shankar said he was not concerned with the anti-North Indian stance taken by regional political parties. "It's the Home Ministry's decision.

Safe Guards: Bihar Military Police will arrive in Mumbai on October 1 to bolster the security arrangements during the Assembly polls in the state.

We don't concern ourselves with regional issues, and don't expect to encounter any problems in Maharashtra."

Debashish Chakrabarty, the chief electoral officer, Maharashtra, said there were no political motives behind deployment of the BMP in the state.

"The forces are sent everywhere irrespective of the party or parties that enjoy influence in any particular region," said Chakrabarty.

Neelmani, the additional director general of police, headquarters, Bihar Police, confirmed that the BMP personnel would be dispatched from Patna on September 29.

"Where the concerned state will deploy the personnel is a decision that is entirely theirs," said Neelmani.

MNS, Sena Speak

Nitin Sardesai spokesperson of the Maharashta Navnirman Sena, which is widely perceived as being opposed to migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, said, "The BMP cannot disturb the elections in any way.

We will keep an eye to ensure that there is no disturbance. I just hope they perform their duties well."

Shiv Sena, also known for anti-North Indian rhetoric, said deploying the BMP was a good idea.

"It is routine to deploy police personnel from other states in order to conduct free and fair polls," said Neelam Gore, the spokesperson of the Shiv Sena.
