Shiv Sena today demanded that the Eastern Freeway in Mumbai be named after party founder late Bal Thackeray

Shiv Sena on Wednesday demanded that the Eastern Freeway in Mumbai be named after party founder late Bal Thackeray.

"We have submitted a memorandum of our demand to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis," senior Sena leader Diwakar Raote told reporters at the party office here this evening.

"We welcome your visiting Balasaheb's memorial on his second death anniversary and also your announcement to set up a befitting memorial for him," Raote said in the letter to Fadnavis.

The naming should happen by January 23, the Sena patriarch's birth anniversary, he said.

The six-lane Thane-Nashik expressway should also be named after late Thackeray, Raote said.

A flyover in Nashik on this road should be named after late poet V V Shirwadkar, he said.

A flyover in Mumbai, from Phoenix Tower to Kamla Mills, should be named after late Sena leader Dattaji Nalawade, he said.
