48 hours after being rushed to state-run JJ Hospital, Indrani Mukerjea is finally said to be conscious and stable. Mukerjea was admitted on Friday afternoon, after jail authorities found her health to be deteriorating and were unable to get it stabilised by present doctors. Mukerjea is said to be responding to the commands as told by the treating doctors.

On Saturday evening, Mukerjea's condition had started improving as she opened her eyes and started responding to commands in a semi-conscious state. Within 12 hours, she is said to be conscious and is able to respond and reply the doctors about her state. "She is a little drowsy but conscious and was able to respond to doctors by afternoon," said Lahane. He added that Indrani will most probably be discharged within a day or two, depending upon the recovery but she is stable.

Withdrawing the chances of an alleged suicide attempt, previous reports from Kalina forensic laboratory had mentioned that there is no presence of drug overdose. Hinduja findings however, contradict these reports, which were based on blood and urine samples and a stomach wash of Indrani Mukerjea.

Lahane had mentioned that the chemical, present in the medicine Etizolam, an anti-depressant was prescribed to Indrani Mukerjea along with the medicine Mirtzapine/Olanzapine, by the jail's consulting psychiatrist Dr Sarika Dixit, an associate professor, attached to Grant Medical College.
