Not just Khanna, the High Court asked the CBI court to hand over copies of Rai's statement to Indrani as well as another accused in the case Peter Mukerjea. The court said that it is their ‘right' to know what Rai has said to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Poornima Kantharia, counsel for CBI, opposed handing the copies of the statement to the accused stating that the agency is still probing. However, the court shot that down.

A week ago, Khanna through his lawyer Shreyansh Mithare had approached the high court for a copy of the confessional statement. "If the accused get the copy of the statement, they will be able to learn what Rai has said about their role in the murder and can apply for bail accordingly," argued Mithare.

CBI had recorded Rai's statement under 164 of CrPc on November 6 last year. Sheena was killed on April 24, 2012 and Indrani, Rai, Khanna and Peter were arrested between May 25, 2015 and November 20.

All have been booked for murder, kidnapping and destruction of evidence.
