More than 100 people from Shahapur town in Thane district gathered at Azad Maidan on Tuesday to undertake a protest march for water.
The march, called 'Jaldindi Padyatra' (protest march for water) was led by Kapil Patil, former chairman of Thane District Co-operative bank and BJP leader Santosh Shinde.
The demand of the protestors include adequate water supply to the locals who supply water to Mumbaikars. Accoding to them, they supply water to Mumbai but they themselves are reeling in thirst and facing water scarcity.
Women carried steel pots on their head as a mark of protest.
Shahapur town has four dams - Bhatsa, Tansa, Modak Sagar and the Middle Vaitarna which supplies 2,960 million litres of water to Mumbai every day through pipelines.
